Karaoke

Karaoke - singing to prerecorded music of popular songs....live, in front of other people - and I LOVE it. The most amazing part is, I can't sing a note!
This photo was taken on my last trip to Punta Cana in the Dominican last November. It was a humid night. We had just finished dinner at a Tex Mex Restaurant and decided that the piano bar where they have Karaoke would be great fun. I admittedly cannot sing, which in my opinion makes it SOOO much more fun. I especially get a kick at how everyone cheers extra hard for you when you can't sing too. It's like they're thinking "Wow, that poor guy who can't sing has got guts". Anyways, I was the only one who got up from our group. You can't pick it out in the photo, but I strayed from my usual Karaoke tune, "Dream, Dream, Dream" by the Everley Brothers and decided to sing "Faith", by George Micheal, performing under my stage name, Yanick. I know the song by heart but I looked at the screen most of the time, because although I can get up and sing a tune, I find it hard to face the crowd...what would Freud say about that I wonder?

Storm's Coming

So this was the view from our balcony on Friday. It had been calling for thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday which we did not get (although on Thursday night there was some cool lightening). But on Friday evening around 5:30 pm, the sky grew dark and the clouds were rolling in. Stephen took this picture with his blackberry and sent it to me...I love it! It doesn't even look real - more like a computer generated image...Our camera has been broken and we need a new one. I miss taking pictures.
Last night we went to the annual International Chicken & Rib cookoff on Sparks Street. Large cooking booths line the streets as teams from Canada and the US compete for the coveted number one spot! Now...this sounds a lot more exciting than it actually was. HOWEVER...I did have the best Chicken and Rib combo that I've ever eaten in my life, followed by a Kilkenny at a pub on the street. A great way to spend a Saturday evening!
