This is a picture taken in a park in Hawaii. It was the first time I'd ever seen a peacock in my life. There were actually two or three of them there and this guy put on a show! It was pretty cool. There was a lady who was trying to pick one of the feathers off his tail - not only is that just cruel and an adult should know better, but in case you don't, there was a sign telling people NOT to do that when first entering the park. Some people.

Located in the middle of the Carribean's bright blue water lies the secluded island of CocoCay. This was the second port of call on our five day cruise last Christmas with Stephen's parents. The island is reserved exclusively for Royal Carribean guests. It has great aquatic facilities, nature trails and white sandy beaches to kick back and relax.

This is a picture of the sunrise from the deck on the morning that we docked there. I actually took 27 pictures in total of it. It was breathtaking.

I was a little concerned about going on a cruise in that I was wondering if I would feel confined or bored, but it was actually a lot of fun with loads to do and I would definately recommend it as a holiday choice, even over an all inclusive.

Below is a picture of the beach at CocoCay from my lawn chair.

Christmas in the South

Well, this is the first time that I've been out of Canada for Christmas. Myself and Stephen are spending Christmas with his parents for the first time since we've been together, which is almost 7 years. We arrived in Datona, Florida on Saturday morning and have had a nice a nice couple of days of vacation mode - eating, a few beers, relaxing, shopping. I am uber excited today as we are leaving in just a few short hours to go on a Caribbean cruise for the first time with his folks!!!
We board the boat at noon or shortly after and then set sail at about 4:00 pm. We are on a soveriegn class ship, Royal Caribbean's Monarch of the Seas. It looks like a friggin city, housing a main dining room, several specialty restaurants, shopping, two pools, a casino, several nightclubs, and a passenger capacity of just under 2500!
We are stopping in Nassau and Cococay, Bahamas on our 5 day excursion. The temperture back home in Ottawa this morning is -14 with a wind chill 0f -25, compared to the +20 it currently is in Nassau! I am looking forward to some much needed heat, vitaman D and relaxation!!
Merry Christmas everyone!

December Ramblings

It never ceases to amaze me just how fast time whips by. Five months since I've updated this and it seems like yesterday I wrote about "Learning to Swim". By the way, never did quite work on it as much as I wanted to.
I am on a train heading back to Ottawa from a one day/night business trip to Montreal. I never thought growing up I would ever say I would be going on a buisness trip. It's nice to be in a place in my life where I love what I do everyday and am establishing a career for myself. In my early adult years, I found it difficult deciding what I wanted to do and bounced around from job to job. Even when I decided on Graphic Design as a career, I had difficulty finding permenant work because I didn't have a degree - only two accelerated diplomas. It was disheartening at the time, but life, I find, usually has a plan based on your subconcious desires and steers you in the direction you truly want to be, even when you don't realize it. I never would have dreamed I'd end up selling furnished suites in the Corporate Housing Industry, but here I am. And with my design background I assist with our marketing. A perfect combination of several things I enjoy - interior design, graphic design and working with the public.
It's been a great experience being in Sales as I have come out of my shell more and more and feel much more confident in myself, my abilities and what I have to offer. Afterall, you can't succeed in Sales if you're shy.
This year overall has been very exciting. Moving to Ottawa in May with Stephen and managing our Sales here has been really rewarding. Not knowing whether or not Stephen's contract would become permenant was a little stressful the past month or so. The contract was up on December 31 and although we planned for it by saving up extra money to cover expenses, it still played on my mind. Looks like he will go permenant though so that weight is being lifted and I am looking forward to 2010. Selling our home in Halifax was stressful too...It was on the market for over four months in a bad economy and we had to drop the price 4 times. In retrospect three months isn't a long time, but at the time it felt like an eternity. It sold on my brothers wedding day in August however and I will never forget that day as long as I live!
I don't know what it is about this time of year that makes people reflect - perhaps the end of a cycle leading into another. I'm reminded how grateful I am everyday for all my blessings and my wonderful life, and that with a little faith and determination, possibilities are truly endless.

Learning To Swim

I have always wanted to learn how to swim but I never have. I took swimming lessons at the age of 15 and they started me off in level three. Although I've never learned to swim, I've never been afraid of the water and can move around in it. I get tired, however, very easily, probably due to not being very active and using all those muscles in new ways is quite exhausting, especially without any real technique.
I've been reading some information online about efficient techniques for swimming to be able to move faster through the water without getting as tired. We have an outdoor and indoor pool in the building we live in and I've decided to practice to become a better swimmer. It's a great workout for the whole body. My goal is to hopefully go swimming 5 - 6 times a week.

Tuesday Morning

The rain falls outside and the noise of the morning traffic interrupts the silence around me. But that's okay as it brings me back from my contemplative holiday and forces me to realize the time - almost time to leave for work...

What was I thinking about....well, in order to expedite the sale of our home we are having it professionally staged. It's been on the market now since April 01st with a ton of showings and positive feedback but no offers. In speaking with several people, staging does help to sell, because people buy "homes" not "spaces". Our real estate agent agreed. So, we got a quote and decided that it was worth the investment. Staging takes place this Friday, at which time when the agent sends me some pictures I will be sure to post them here. I'm anxious to see it.

I just hope it works, because otherwise it's quite a bit of money down the tubes. But, I am sure it will work.

A Perfect Sunday

On Sunday, myself and Stephen went to our friends place in Quebec for a hike, picnic, a bbq and hot tubbing, and it was a perfect day!

We woke up to a beautiful weather day, about 23 and SUNNY! It had rained for most of the week so it was great to see the nice weather. We hopped in the car and left the city around 9:15 am and arrived to our destination at about 10:30 am. Our friends, the Alains (whom we, and everyone else refer to as "The Alains" because they are a couple but both are named Alain) have a great dog named Mickey. They've had him for almost a year now and this is his fifth home, so a

first it took some work with training but he is just wonderful. Anyways, we have our dog, Atlas, who is for the most part great with most dogs, but every once in a while there is a dog he doesn't like (just like people I guess). Anyways, we were introducing them for the first time and were hoping that they would get along and...they do. Amazingly!!!! Which makes us really happy because we are already planning our next hike!

Anyways, the above photo is a picture of the Alains and my Stephen (far right) at the beginning of our hike in the Laurentian Mountains. The trails through the forest were great...it was very quiet, not a lot of people. We stopped about half way and had a picnic of breads, crackers, cheeses, and wine.

The next picture is the view from one of the high points on the mountain. The next photo after that is a picture taken from the car of the sun starting to set, and the last picture is a very tired Atlas. Altogether we hiked for 12Km. The hot tub certainly felt good after the hike, and the cold beer went down very nicely.

It really was just a great day!
